Suzanne Truax

Suzanne Truax was born in Abilene, Texas, and moved to Houston at the age of 8. She considers Houston to be her home. She has been passionate about being a caregiver since the age of 8 and could not wait to be the youngest Candy Striper at Bellaire Hospital at 12 years of age. Suzanne worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Bellaire Hospital all through high school. She then moved to San Marcos, Texas to take undergraduate classes. She relocated to Fort Worth with her family and audited classes at Southwestern Baptist Seminary for several years. Suzanne completed her RN degree in the Houston area and started her nursing career at Bellaire Hospital. She soon had an opportunity to help coordinate discharges from the acute care settings. This led her to a better understanding of the different environments that were available in the community for her patients. Her desire to help find the “next best” setting for her patients, led to a strong base in the home care experience.

Suzanne became the Director of Nursing at one of the largest hospital-based home care programs in the Houston Medical Center. She spent many years there and loved teaching families to be proactive in their care. About 25 years ago, she added a Wellness component to her patient education portfolio. After a traumatic injury was sustained by her spouse, she was given a prognosis for him that she was not willing to accept. Through research and persistence, she was able to find help for him in the Wellness Industry. Help that was not available through the medical setting she was most familiar with. She began making families aware of options available to maximize their health.

Suzanne had the opportunity to see firsthand, the impact of putting the human body in a “wellness environment.” After her husband’s amazing recovery, she brought her grandmother, who was Hospice appropriate, to her home in Houston. She again saw the difference between “surviving and thriving,” as her grandmother began to thrive and was a blessing for six more years. Suzanne is very passionate about helping families hold on to their health and maximize their ability to thrive in any situation where they might find themselves.

Suzanne and Dana brought their backgrounds and friendship together, and as Partners, have been collaborating with other health care professionals. Their focus is to teach others to be advocates of their own health.
